Many are eager to reunite with their families and children and prepared to work hard to find and retain jobs with an opportunity for advancement. There is convincing evidence that employment is one of the contributing factors to successful reentry. A Texas study (Eisenberg 1990) showed that an unemployed ex-offender is three times more likely to return to prison than an employed ex-offender. A viably employed ex-offender pays taxes, supports his/her family, pays rent or a mortgage, and is less likely to engage in criminal behaviors, creating a safer community for everyone.
